System-level power analysis seeks to make detailed inferences about a computer's internal state based only on measurements gathered at the power plug. In contrast to more traditional power analysis work, we do not dissasemble or alter any hardware or make any software modifications to the device under test. We have evaluated this technique as a tool for side-channel attacks against commodity computers and as an anomaly detection system on safety-critical embedded systems.
